Physical Ability Test - Pass/Fail
This test consists of physical ability excercises that measure endurance, flexibility, and strength.
Written Test - Weighted 100%
The written test is designed to measure the competitor’s ability to: 1. Read and understand written communications. 2. Write clearly, using correct grammar and spelling. Written Test Waiver - The Cadet, California Highway Patrol position no longer uses a Written Test Waiver program. Regardless of past written test history with the CHP, ALL applicants are required to participate in the Cadet, CHP, written test. Eligible List - Competitors’ eligibility expires after 24 months. Veterans Preference will be added to the final rank of all competitors who are successful in this examination and who qualify for, and have requested the preference in a timely manner. VETERANS WHO HAVE ACHIEVED PERMANENT CIVIL SERVICE STATUS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE VETERANS PREFERENCE.
Effective January 1, 2014, in accordance with Government Codes 18972.1 and 18973.5 Veterans' Preference will be awarded as follows: 1) Any veteran, widow or widower of a veterans, or spouse of a 100 percent disabled veteran, who achieves a passing score in an entrance examination, shall be ranked in the top rank of the resulting eligibility list. Any veteran who has been dishonorably discharged or released is not eligible for Veterans Preference. 2) An entrance examination is defined, under the law, as any open competitive examination. And 3) Veterans Preference is not granted once a person achieves permanent civil service status. Veteran status is verified by CalHR.
